Prisoner for the gospel
Paul wrote to the Romans years before he arrived. The letter that shaped the Reformation was sent to a church he had not yet visited.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ.”

The brothers came to meet us
Paul traveled the Appian Way as a prisoner. The believers walked out to meet him — the first welcome of the Roman church.
“And so we came to Rome.”

Two whole years
For two years Paul received all who came to him in his rented house. The gospel moved from a prison cell into the heart of the empire.

Faithful unto death
Peter and Paul were both martyred in Rome during Nero's persecution. The city that killed them became the center of the church they planted.

Beneath the Appian Way, the early church buried its dead and painted its hope on the walls. The catacombs are the first Christian art.
