The journey
What this program is.
A pilgrimage with protected time for Mass, prayer, and reflection. Assisi is a stay of several nights, not a day trip. The exact liturgies depend on the priest, the sites, and the permissions for that departure.
Designed around a priest or spiritual director, with time for prayer. Other Christian groups can visit these places on a separately described heritage version. The label is not a rule about who may enquire.
How this journey is experienced
Who leads
A priest or spiritual director is named for the departure. This page does not name one.
In the program
Rome's major basilicas, then several nights in Assisi: San Francesco, San Damiano, Santa Chiara, the Porziuncola, and a reflection site such as Eremo delle Carceri.
By request
Mass at a confirmed venue and time. La Verna when the pace allows. A short optional walk on the Way of Francis for groups that want it.
The Scriptural Atlas
Every day, a chapter.
Day 1 · Matthew 11:28
Intentions
Rome·Night in Rome
Arrival in Rome, a welcome, and an orientation to the pilgrimage.
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
The intentions the group is carrying.
The Colosseum in Rome.
The sites
Day by day
A framework, not a held departure.
Practical considerations
Walking
Assisi slopes, basilica crowds, and hilltop access.
Worship
Mass is confirmed with the priest before it is published. It is not assumed.
Pace
Quieter half-days are part of the pilgrimage, not spare time to fill.
La Verna
Included only when the pace and the departure city allow it.
Content reviewed 29 September 2026.
What this journey is not
- Mass is not listed as included. The venue and time are confirmed with the priest before they are published.
- La Verna can be omitted for a gentler Rome and Assisi journey.
- A heritage version for other Christian traditions needs its own description of how the journey is experienced.
What can be arranged
- La Verna, when the pace allows
- A short optional walk on the Way of Francis
